When you hear the word herpes you likely relate it with the STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease). In reality, herpes is actually an entire family of viruses that can lead to a variety of medical problems such as encephalitis (a rare brain infection), cold sores, cancer or genital herpes.
You cannot catch herpes through the air like many other viruses. It is only spread through skin to skin contact with somebody that has been infected with it. It enters through small breaks or cracks in the skin, which normally forms a great defense against such invasions, but some parts of it do not form such a great defense and can be easily invaded.
