COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a chronic lung condition that interferes with breathing by obstructing the lung airways. It is a common disease that occurs frequently in people who have had frequent bouts of bronchitis, such as in an asthmatic person or one who has emphysema. Although a common disease, COPD can be very serious and is the fourth major killer in the United States. In COPD, the airways and sacs within the lungs become blocked. This makes exhaling very difficult and uncomfortable, as the air becomes trapped in your lungs instead of being expelled out of the body.
