A Natural IBS Fix
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects about 10 to 20% of Americans. IBS causes abdominal cramps and pain, bloating, diarrhea or constipation. Certain foods and/or emotional stress can trigger bouts of IBS. Now research reports that regular exercise can treat and prevent IBS symptoms. The researchers suggest that physical activity may help relieve gas and constipation and positively influence the digestive tract. The study, published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology , investigated the effect of regular physical activity on IBS symptoms. Researchers at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden administered either 20 to 60 minutes of moderate physical exercise three to five days a week or usual activities (control group) to 102 sedentary patients with IBS, for 3 months.
